Internal Air Quality & Your Health

For obvious reasons, a lot of us are thinking about how to stay healthy this season. Besides the obvious good advice promoted by the CDC – washing your hands, covering your mouth when you cough – another thing to consider is the air quality within your home.

What’s so important about air purity?

We don’t want to be alarmists – but when your interior air quality deteriorates, so does your health! Poor air quality in your home can create issues like dust, mold, mildew, and a general buildup of toxins like carbon dioxide and radon.

These problems can cause minor problems, such as itchy eyes or a sore throat; but if your IAQ remains poor for a long period of time, those pollutants can eventually lead to chronic health issues such as respiratory disease or cancer.

How do I ensure that my IAQ is good?

Pollutants love to accumulate in dark, damp, or airless spaces. This is why it’s so important to make sure that:

1. Your home is well-ventilated, and
2. You have proper venting for appliances that produce carbon monoxide or dioxide. 3. You regularly replace the air filters in your furnace

Additionally, you can install an active air purifier – such as our Reme Halo system – which can be installed directly into your ductwork. This air purifier targets airborn pollutants, removing up to 99% of pollen, mold spores, pet dander – and even the viruses which cause the flu and the common cold!

This flu season, keep yourself and your family healthy by taking care of your indoor air quality – and call us if you have any questions! We’re here to help!
